The work we do here @ Kya’s Promise is dedicated to the life of our beautiful little girl Kya. She was born with severe medical problems (mostly lung related) and survived years beyond what was expected of her. She was funny, mischievous, strong , a fighter and honestly just a joy to have in our home. She taught us compassion, caring and living life with a smile.
Eleven years ago upon finding her lifeless in her room, now FREE of the physical limitations of her broken body. Our hearts were shattered and grief was coursing through our souls…Laura, Kya’s momma, made a vow to Kya that she would not let her be forgotten. The remaining years we had to wait for our Heavenly reunion, would be used in a way that would honor what she brought into our lives.
The budding idea of this promise was, at first, a desperate effort by Laura & Jonathan Dale to find ways to earn money to pay for the adoption of two more children with special needs, Aria & Elias. During the course of the long process to complete this adoption, it became evident that many families were also struggling to find ways to pay the fees that did not involve debt or drawing on retirement accounts. Through making and selling many types of items Laura was able to successfully raise $45,000 and the family was blessed to receive three generous matching grants to make up the difference, for a grand total of $62,000.
The Dales felt it was important to pay-it-forward and help other families by lifting a small burden of the financial hurdle they must overcome. Laura began again to fundraise by making anything that would sell. During the holidays this was always chocolates & candy, made in her home kitchen (abiding by Idaho’s cottage laws of course). Once the monthly sales were completed she would issue grants to families who where adopting the children least likely to ever find a forever home.
In September 2020 Kya’s Promise was created as a collaborative effort to build this personal pet project into a sustainable life mission of service to the “least of these”. Based in North Idaho, Kya’s Promise is HELPING CHILDREN FIND HOMES THE SWEETEST WAY POSSIBLE. It is our mission to also support those families long after the adoption, through medical crisis and bereavement of the child as well.
This is why we work so hard & give away every penny to help other families that are choosing to raise their own “Kya”.
