The Kya’s Kids Memorial Fund features short run, specialty item, product sales to benefit families in need. These profits are earmarked for the express use of supporting families in medical crises and who may need help with the burial expenses for their beloved child. Our entire mission at Kya’s Promise is to support families of special needs kids. Our regular line products support families CHOOSING to provide homes for children that would otherwise be without a forever family. We firmly believe that supporting these families should include before, during and after the child’s life. The purpose of the Kya’s Kids Memorial Fund is to honor Kya, and her brothers, Aiden and Elias Dale who have also struggled with medical conditions which required multiple hospital stays, hospice, and eventual passing. The items that will be offered under the memorial fund category will be for the following three-fold purpose: Medical Crisis When a family spends weeks or months with a child in the hospital during a medical crisis, the bills at home still must be paid. A family may need to pay for meals or lodging that is not provided by the insurance company. One parent may need to be with the child while the other stays home to work and travels to visit nights/weekends. Transportation to/from can get very costly over a long stay. Even parking fees can become a burden. It can be a very stressful experience all together. Funds collected here will be used to offset some of these costs. We work with PICU & NICU social workers all across the USA who have families that might require such assistance. Hospice When a family must make the choice of placing their child in the hospice program, they know that time is limited with their little one (usually less than 6 months). As the child’s condition worsens often a family must make choices between spending precious time with their child, and other important life-maintaining necessities like going to work! Our goal here is to offer some financial support in the form of mortgage, utility, and food assistance. These donations will be made directly to the families as we see the needs arise. Burial Expenses In the days following a child’s death the family soon discovers the ugly reality of putting your beloved child to eternal rest. Despite the pain, grief and barely passable ability to function, a family must still pay for the myriad of services required to have a funeral. Most often, if the child is over the age of 8 years old, funeral homes do not offer discounts on services. The Dale’s experienced this first hand when their daughter, Kya, passed away in 2011. Even though the actual funeral was free (held at their church), the plot, burial fees, cement vault, casket and flowers were $6500. This was a bill that was being paid off, EVERY MONTH, for years after her death. It was not only another financial burden on the family, that monthly payment was a constant reminder of their loss.
Kya’s Promise will make donations directly to the families and/or funeral home, as we see needs that we can help meet. It is our goal to allow the families who have chosen to parent these special children the ability to grieve without the hardship of added debt.
